The word 'communication' comes from the Latin word communis, meaning 'common'. In an organisation, communication is one of the four elements of Directing (along with supervision, motivation and leadership), and it is regularly asked in the Maharashtra HSC OCM examination (the same idea features in NCERT/CBSE Business Studies).
Meaning: Communication is the process by which one person (the sender) transmits information, ideas or instructions to another person (the receiver) and receives a response. Elements/process: sender → message → encoding → channel/medium → receiver → decoding → feedback.
