The promotion mix consists of four elements:

  1. Advertising — paid, non-personal mass communication about a product through a media channel (TV, print, internet) on behalf of an identified sponsor; reaches a large audience cheaply per head but cannot address an individual's specific question.
  2. Personal Selling — direct, face-to-face (or phone/video) persuasion by a salesperson; highly tailored to the individual customer but reaches far fewer people per rupee spent.
  3. Sales Promotion — short-term incentives such as discounts, coupons, free samples, or contests, aimed at triggering an immediate purchase or trial.
