Step 2. It causes prolonged fever (up to 104 degF), nausea, fatigue, headache, abdominal pain with constipation or diarrhoea, a rose-coloured rash, a white-coated tongue and loss of appetite; untreated, it can progress to breathlessness, irregular heartbeat and haemorrhage.
