Q.How important are fluids in our life?
Fluids (liquids and gases) flow — and everything alive or mechanical exploits that.
A fluid is any substance that can flow. Life depends on fluids at every level: we breathe air (a fluid), drink water, and our blood — a fluid — circulates oxygen and nutrients through the body. Plants raise water and sap through capillary action. Machines run on fluid fuels, are lubricated by oils, and hydraulic brakes/lifts transmit force through liquids. Weather itself is fluid air and water vapour in motion. This chapter builds the physics (pressure, surface tension, viscosity, flow) that governs all of these.
Fluids are essential at every level of daily life — the water we drink, the air we breathe, blood circulating nutrients and oxygen, fuels and lubricants in machines, water transport in plants — because a fluid is the one phase of matter that can FLOW and so carry material, pressure and energy from place to place.
