Polythene is an addition homopolymer of a single monomer, ethene, CH2=CH2\text{CH}_2{=}\text{CH}_2. Nylon-6,6 is a condensation polymer of two monomers: hexamethylenediamine, H2N–(CH2)6–NH2\text{H}_2\text{N--}(\text{CH}_2)_6\text{--NH}_2, and adipic acid, HOOC–(CH2)4–COOH\text{HOOC--}(\text{CH}_2)_4\text{--COOH}. Terylene is a condensation polymer of ethylene glycol, HO–CH2CH2–OH\text{HO--CH}_2\text{CH}_2\text{--OH}, and terephthalic acid, p-HOOC–C6H4–COOHp\text{-HOOC--C}_6\text{H}_4\text{--COOH}. Bakelite is a condensation polymer of phenol, C6H5OH\text{C}_6\text{H}_5\text{OH}, and formaldehyde, HCHO\text{HCHO}. Natural rubber is biosynthesised, as cis-1,4-polyisoprene, from repeated addition of …
