Part (a) — Rebuilding the league fixture
Anita's fixture is a league (round-robin), in which every team plays every other team once. Khushi's copy shows only Rounds III and IV, but that is enough to rebuild the schedule.
There are 7 teams (1–7). An odd number cannot pair up completely, so one team takes a bye every round. The shown byes are team 5 (Round III) and team 4 (Round IV) — the bye number drops by one each round:
| Round | I | II | III | IV | V | VI | VII |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bye | 7 | 6 | 5 | 4 | 3 | 2 | 1 |
In a cyclic fixture the pairings rotate by a fixed step each round. Working back from the shown rounds, Round I pairs are (1,6), (2,5) and (3,4), with team 7 on a bye.
- (i) The match 4 v 3 is in Round I.
- (ii) With 7 (odd) teams each team must rest once, giving 7 rounds → (B).
- (iii) From the rotation, team 2's bye is in Round VI. …
