[!TLDR]

The amplifier's noise ratio is 1.33 and its noise figure is 1.25 dB.

The noise ratio (NR) tells us how much a system degrades the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of a signal passing through it. It is defined as the SNR at the input divided by the SNR at the output. Because a real amplifier adds some noise of its own, the output SNR is smaller than the input SNR, so NR works out greater than 1.

Given data: SNRin=8SNR_{in} = 8, SNRout=6SNR_{out} = 6.

Step 1 — Noise ratio:

NR=SNRinSNRout=86=1.33NR = \frac{SNR_{in}}{SNR_{out}} = \frac{8}{6} = 1.33

Step 2 — Noise figure (the noise ratio in decibels):

NF=10log⁡10(NR)=10log⁡10(1.33)=1.25 dBNF = 10\log_{10}(NR) = 10\log_{10}(1.33) = 1.25 \text{ dB}

[!ANSWER]

Noise ratio NR=1.33NR = 1.33; noise figure NF=1.25NF = 1.25 dB.
