Step 2. At the very top, draw a single compact row of cells as the upper (adaxial) epidermis, topped by a wavy cuticle line; leave stomata out of this layer (or show at most one, since they are rare here).
Step 3. Immediately below, draw a row of tall, closely packed, rectangular cells standing on end, with small circles inside for chloroplasts — this is the palisade parenchyma.
Step 4. Below that, draw loosely scattered, irregularly shaped cells with clear gaps between them — the spongy parenchyma, showing its air spaces.
Step 5. Within this mesophyll region, draw one vascular bundle in section: a small oval outlined by a thin bundle-sheath layer, with xylem cells drawn toward the palisade (upper) side and phloem cells toward the spongy (lower) side. …
