Biofertilizers are living-microbe-based, eco-friendly nutrient boosters; a root nodule's T.S. shows the cortex, a central Rhizobium-bacteroid zone (with leghaemoglobin), and vascular tissue.

(a) Biofertilizers are formulations containing living cells of specific microorganisms — such as symbiotic or free-living nitrogen-fixing bacteria (e.g., Rhizobium, Azotobacter, Azospirillum), phosphate-solubilizing bacteria/fungi, or mycorrhizal fungi — that, when applied to seeds, seedlings or soil, establish themselves in or around plant roots and enhance the availability of essential nutrients (particularly nitrogen and phosphorus) to the plant, either by fixing atmospheric nitrogen into a usable form or by converting insoluble soil nutrients into forms the plant can absorb. Because they harness natural biological processes rather than industrially synthesized chemicals, biofertilizers are considered an economical, sustainable and environmentally friendly means of improving soil fertility and crop yield, and are increasingly promoted as part of organic and sustainable farming practices. …
