Biology · Ch 7 — Plant Growth and Mineral Nutrition

Introduction

Introduction

Think About It

Can you recall?

  1. Do you think that growth is a property of living beings only?
  2. Is there any difference between plant growth and animal growth?

This chapter follows growth from the dividing cell to the whole plant - its phases, how it is measured, the hormones that regulate it, the light and temperature cues that switch a plant to flowering - and then turns to the minerals a plant must absorb and the nitrogen cycle that keeps one of them, nitrogen, in supply. MSBSHSE's HSC Biology syllabus for this chapter draws on the same ground as the NCERT/CBSE Class 11 chapters on plant growth and development and on mineral nutrition, so the vocabulary used here serves Maharashtra board and CBSE students alike.
