Ohm's law: at constant temperature, the potential difference across a conductor is directly proportional to the current through it, V=IRV = IR.

Statement: Ohm's law states that, provided the physical conditions of the conductor (particularly its temperature) remain unchanged, the electric current II flowing through a conductor is directly proportional to the potential difference VV applied across its two ends.

I∝V⟹V∝I⟹V=IRI \propto V \quad \Longrightarrow \quad V \propto I \quad \Longrightarrow \quad V = IR

Here the constant of proportionality RR is called the electrical resistance of the conductor; it is a constant for a given conductor at a given (constant) temperature, and depends on the material, length, and cross-sectional area of the conductor. The unit of resistance is the ohm (Ω\Omega), defined such that 1 Ω=1 V/A1\ \Omega = 1\ V/A.
