A data address is the location in memory (or a register) that stores an operand, letting an instruction fetch or store that data.
Every data byte the CPU works on is kept at some location, and the data address is the numeric identifier of that location. In the 8051's direct addressing mode the instruction carries the data address of a RAM cell or SFR; the CPU uses it to read or write the operand.
