The PIC16F887 is a low-cost RISC microcontroller (35 single-cycle instructions) with 8K FLASH, 368 bytes RAM, 256 bytes EEPROM, a 10-bit ADC, three timers, a comparator, PWM, USART and MSSP, working from 2.0–5.5 V up to 20 MHz.
The PIC16F887 is one of the latest products from Microchip, featuring all the components which modern microcontrollers normally have. For its low price, wide range of application, high quality and easy availability, it is an ideal solution for controlling different industrial processes, machine-control devices and the measurement of different values. Its main features are:
- Architecture: RISC — only 35 instructions to learn; all instructions are single-cycle except branches.
- Operating frequency: 0–20 MHz.
- Precision internal oscillator: factory-calibrated, software-selectable frequency range 8 MHz–31 kHz.
- Power supply: 2.0 V–5.5 V; consumption about 220 µA at 2.0 V/4 MHz, about 11 µA at 2.0 V/32 kHz, and about 50 nA in standby.
- Power-saving sleep mode.
- Brown-Out Reset (BOR) with a software-control option.
- 35 input/output pins — high current source/sink for direct LED drive, software individually programmable pull-up resistor, and an interrupt-on-change pin.
- Memory: 8K ROM memory in FLASH technology (the chip can be reprogrammed up to 100,000 times); in-circuit serial programming; 256 bytes EEPROM (data can be written more than 1,000,000 times); 368 bytes RAM.
- A/D converter: 14 channels, 10-bit resolution.
- Three independent timers/counters and a watchdog timer. …
