Q.Write a short note on: b. Redifferentiation
Redifferentiation is the second, final maturation of a dedifferentiated cell into a specific functional form.
Step 1. Cells that have dedifferentiated (regained meristematic, dividing capacity after having once matured) eventually stop dividing again.
Step 2. These cells then mature a second time to perform a specific function -- this second maturation is redifferentiation.
Step 3. An example is secondary xylem and secondary phloem, which are formed by the redifferentiation of dedifferentiated cambium cells present in the vascular bundle.
Redifferentiation is the process by which dedifferentiated cells lose their regained dividing capacity and mature again into a specialised cell type, as in the formation of secondary xylem and phloem.
