The classic photoelectric-effect apparatus lets stopping potential, saturation current, and their dependence on frequency/intensity be measured.

Apparatus: An evacuated glass/quartz tube contains a photosensitive metal plate C (the cathode, emitter) and a collecting plate A (the anode), connected to a battery through a potential divider (rheostat) so the potential of A relative to C can be varied continuously and reversed in polarity via a commutator. A voltmeter reads the potential difference between A and C, and a sensitive micro-ammeter in the circuit reads the resulting photocurrent. Monochromatic light of known frequency and intensity, passed through a quartz window, falls on C.
