Two standard photoelectric-effect definitions.

(a) Threshold frequency (ν0\nu_0): the minimum frequency of incident radiation below which no photoelectric emission takes place from a given metal surface, however intense the light, because a single photon of that frequency does not carry enough energy to overcome the surface's work function.
