Semen (seminal fluid) ejaculated during copulation is a mixture of: (1) sperm (spermatozoa) produced in the testes and matured/stored in the epididymis; (2) secretion from the paired seminal vesicles, which contributes the largest share of seminal fluid volume and is rich in fructose (an energy source for sperm), fibrinogen and prostaglandins; (3) prostatic secretion from the prostate gland, a thin, milky, slightly alkaline fluid containing citric acid, calcium and certain enzymes that helps neutralise vaginal acidity and activates sperm motility; and (4) mucus secretion from the paired bulbourethral (Cowper's) glands, which …
