Q.What is WWW?

Every resource on the internet needs a unique address so that a browser can locate it, just as every house needs a postal address. This address is the Universal Resource Locator (URL). Unlike a bare IP address, which only identifies a computer's location, a URL is a more complete pointer that specifies the location, the protocol to be used, and the specific resource wanted. Its general form is scheme//host/filename. For example, in http://www.google.com/index.html, "http" is the scheme (protocol) that says how the resource is to be fetched, "www.google.com" is the host name identifying the computer or service, and "index.html" is the file name naming the exact page.

The host name ends in a domain, which identifies the type of organisation: common domains include .com (a commercial company), .edu (an educational institution) and .net (an internet service provider), together with country codes such as .in (India), .uk and .us. …
