The ISP provides communication software and services such as e-mail, chat and e-commerce, and can also host or build websites for its subscribers. The ISP has one or more towers to which thousands of subscriber cables and modems connect. To carry traffic across the wider internet, ISPs are connected to one another through Network Access Points (NAPs) that link onto the internet 'cloud' or backbone.
