f(x)=g(x)  ⟹  x−3=5−x  ⟹  x=8−xf(x)=g(x) \implies \sqrt{x}-3=5-x \implies \sqrt{x}=8-x.

For this to have a real solution we need 8−x≥08-x\ge0, i.e. x≤8x\le8 (since the left side x\sqrt{x} is never negative).

Square both sides: x=(8−x)2=64−16x+x2  ⟹  x2−17x+64=0x=(8-x)^2=64-16x+x^2 \implies x^2-17x+64=0.

By the quadratic formula: x=17±289−2562=17±332x=\dfrac{17\pm\sqrt{289-256}}{2}=\dfrac{17\pm\sqrt{33}}{2}. …
