In a true fruit (eucarp) the whole fruit is the ripened ovary: the ovary wall becomes the pericarp and nothing else takes part. Mango, tomato, brinjal, grape and pea are true fruits.
In a false fruit (pseudocarp) some floral part other than the ovary enlarges and forms the bulk of the fruit. In apple and pear the fleshy part we eat is the swollen thalamus (receptacle) that surrounds the ovary, the real fruit being the core; in strawberry the red flesh is the enlarged thalamus with the tiny true fruits (achenes) dotted on its surface; in cashew the fleshy 'apple' is the swollen pedicel and thalamus, and the nut hanging below it is the true fruit. …
