Incomplete Dominance
Incomplete Dominance
a. Incomplete dominance :
In incomplete dominance, neither allele of a pair can fully suppress the other, so the heterozygote shows a phenotype intermediate between the two homozygous parents rather than looking exactly like one of them. The chapter's example is flower colour in Mirabilis jalapa (the four-o'clock plant): crossing a red-flowered plant (RR) with a white-flowered plant (rr) produces an F1 generation of pink flowers (Rr) — visibly a blend, not a masking, of red and white. …
Table 3.5.1aIncomplete Dominance in Mirabilis jalapa — RR × rr Cross
Parents: Red (RR) x White (rr). Gametes: R and r. F1: all Rr, Pink (intermediate). Selfing F1 x F1 (Rr x Rr) gives genotypes RR, Rr, Rr, rr -> genotypic ratio 1 RR : 2 Rr : 1 rr, matched exactly by phenot …
