To analyse how an amplifier responds to a signal, we draw its AC equivalent circuit, which represents the circuit as seen by the AC signal only. The steps are: first, since a DC supply is a constant voltage, it offers zero impedance to AC, so the point is connected (shorted) to ground; second, the coupling and bypass capacitors have negligible reactance at signal frequencies, so they are replaced by short circuits; third, the transistor is replaced by its small-signal AC model.
