Osmotic pressure is a property of a solution's tendency to draw in solvent; turgor pressure is the actual pressure a turgid cell's contents exert on its own wall.

Osmotic pressure (O.P.) is a property of a solution in isolation — it is the pressure that would need to be applied externally to just stop solvent from entering that solution across a semipermeable membrane. It represents a solution's full osmotic 'pulling power', regardless of whether the solution is actually inside a walled cell or not.

Turgor pressure (T.P.), by contrast, is specific to a living, walled cell: it is the pressure that the swollen cell sap of a turgid cell actually exerts outward against the cell membrane and rigid wall, once water has entered and the wall's own counter-pressure (wall pressure) has come into play. Turgor pressure can never exceed osmotic pressure — in a fully turgid cell, in fact, TP = OP, making DPD zero — because the wall's resistance limits how much of the solution's full osmotic potential is actually converted into realised outward pressure. …
