d. External genitalia : The external genitalia of the male include the penis and the scrotum. The penis is the male copulatory organ — a cylindrical, muscular structure built of three bundles of erectile tissue: a pair of postero-lateral bundles called the corpora cavernosa, and a median corpus spongiosum. Its swollen tip, the glans penis, is covered by a loose fold of skin called the foreskin or prepuce.

Scrotum : The scrotum is a loose pouch of pigmented skin lying behind the penis, divided internally into a right and a left scrotal sac by a septum of smooth muscle called the tunica dartos. During foetal life, a short fibro-muscular band called the gubernaculum guides the developing testes into the scrotum and keeps them there; the testes remain suspended within the scrotum afterward by the spermatic cord. Failure of a testis to descend into the scrotum is called cryptorchidism, and it results in sterility. The cremaster and dartos muscles of the scrotum can draw the testes close …
