Oviduct / Fallopian tube / Uterine tube : These are a pair of muscular ducts lying horizontally over the peritoneal cavity, with their proximal end close to the ovary and their distal end opening into the uterus. Each tube is 10–12 cm long and internally lined by ciliated epithelium, and can be divided into three regions:
a. Infundibulum : The proximal, funnel-shaped part, opening through an aperture called the ostium and surrounded by numerous finger-like projections called fimbriae, at least one of which is long and connected to the ovary; the beating cilia and movement of the fimbriae together help sweep the ovulated egg into the ostium. …
