An SCR is a p-n-p-n four-layer structure with anode on the p⁺ end, cathode on the n⁺ end and the gate on the inner p (p-base) layer.
The silicon controlled rectifier (SCR) is built from four semiconductor layers arranged in the order p-n-p-n, forming three p-n junctions. Starting from the anode side:
