An anticodon is a triplet of nucleotides on tRNA that is complementary to, and base-pairs with, the mRNA codon during translation.

The anticodon is tRNA's triplet that decodes the mRNA codon and specifies which amino acid is added.

Each transfer RNA (tRNA) molecule carries a specific three-nucleotide sequence called the anticodon, located at the tip of its anticodon loop.
