A nucleosome is the basic chromatin unit: a histone octamer core (2 each of H2A, H2B, H3, H4) with ~146-200 bp of DNA wound around it in ~1.65 turns, plus linker histone H1 and linker DNA joining adjacent nucleosomes...

Nucleosome = histone octamer + wound DNA + H1, the repeating unit of chromatin.

Eukaryotic DNA is packaged with proteins into chromatin, whose repeating structural unit is the nucleosome. Each nucleosome core is formed by a histone octamer — two molecules each of the four core histones H2A, H2B, H3 and H4 — around which a stretch of about 146-200 base pairs of double-stranded DNA is wrapped in roughly 1.65 left-handed superhelical turns. A fifth type of histone, H1 (the linker histone), sits at the point where DNA enters and exits the core particle, helping to compact and stabilise the structure. Adjacent nucleosome cores are connected by a short stretch of 'linker DNA' (roughly 20-80 bp), giving isolated chromatin under the electron microscope the characteristic beads-o …
