More parallel paths mean less effective opposition to changing current — exactly like resistors.

For two inductors L1L_1, L2L_2 connected in parallel, the same induced emf ee appears across both, but the total current drawn splits between the two branches:

i=i1+i2,e=−L1di1dt=−L2di2dt=−Leqdidti = i_1+i_2, \qquad e = -L_1\frac{di_1}{dt} = -L_2\frac{di_2}{dt} = -L_{eq}\frac{di}{dt}

This gives 1Leq=1L1+1L2\dfrac{1}{L_{eq}} = \dfrac{1}{L_1}+\dfrac{1}{L_2}, exactly analogous to resistors in parallel.
