A mature angiosperm pollen grain (male gametophyte in its early, two-celled stage) is typically spherical to oval. Its wall has two layers: the outer exine, made of the highly resistant, sculptured/ornamented polymer sporopollenin, interrupted at one or more points by thin areas or pores called germ pores (through which the pollen tube later emerges); and the inner intine, a thin layer composed mainly of cellulose and pectin.
