Turner's (45,XO) and Klinefelter's (47,XXY) are numerical sex-chromosome disorders with characteristic physical and reproductive effects.
Chromosomal disorders arise from abnormalities in the number of chromosomes (aneuploidy — gain or loss of one or more chromosomes from the normal diploid set) or from structural changes such as deletions, duplications, inversions or translocations, usually resulting from errors during meiotic (or mitotic) cell division, particularly non-disjunction.
Turner's syndrome is caused by monosomy of the X chromosome, giving an individual only 45 chromosomes with a single X and no second sex chromosome (karyotype 45, XO); it occurs only in phenotypic females. Characteristic features include short stature, a short/webbed neck, low-set ears, a broad ('shield') chest, undeveloped (rudimentary) ovaries leading to sterility and lack of secondary sexual characters at puberty, and often normal intelligence. …
